I don't at all get the whole "making websites must feel like a 996 shift in a Nike sweatshop"

Software dev has never been a hard job

It's been so paint by numbers for years now for me it's incredibly boring mind numbing dead end toil

Who said it should? What are you responding to?

Are they hiring and are they ok with remote ;)

Yes but they need people who can hang on to an HN account for longer than a day.

Oh never mind then; too needy and clingy

Well this update fixes your asteroid complaint then

Adds persistent asteroid belts, asteroid mining, and base building on asteroids

Go wild

Oh, everyone else's mistake; we didn't realize all of human output had to satisfy you...of all people!

"The old owner" was $platform

Read the TOS for these services ... you don't own anything stored on their servers

Incorrect. This happened across platforms including X.

I think GP is (correctly) claiming that you don't actually own your account handle on social media services, including X. But I don't think it was a particularly relevant response at that point in the comment thread, and I agree Meta likely bought the usernames from the band on the various platforms.

Not necessarily. Continued gains in compute efficiency and improved AI chips in your pocket doing more could reduce data center needs

That sounds like a marvelous scenario for economic growth, because we will have tons of capacity to deploy ai models everywhere.

The bad scenario is compute efficiently not increasing much, and hardware prices staying high, while AI is too expensive for most tasks, and 50% of all investments in the economy over the last X years have gone into AI.

The person stated “ Many data centers are being built by companies that won't exist in a few years, as the winner will take all.” The person stated this as a negative.

If those built data-centers are sold to other companies what is the negative? The gains you mention would happen even if those other companies stay in business.

> Doing the same thing for 23 years likely makes it difficult to have a proper perspective.

Preach.

Seems to twist perception that reality is a fractal when it's recursive and eventually exits (everything dies).

Explains religion, politics, and similar longtermism memes.

No where is it written here they shouldn't

Not everything needs to be a panacea to cover all edge cases

Legally a specific situation is often required

Imo it is a phony obligation to fragment people via feigned ignorance and willful ignorance, create liquidity of a sort in the litigation market making everyone fight the same fires over and over but that is currently how it works

1. they shouldn't even have to work, they should be on a paid leave

2. if they want to work - they should have preferential treatment

3. even if they are not pregnant - their bathroom breaks or the ability to sit down shouldn't be limited by their employer

Reading about American work culture is uncanny. It's like people arguing about css-styling the NPE error stacktrace, and everybody just assumes the null dateOfBirth in the database and 5 levels of backend code without null checks is just how it has to be.

> 3. even if they are not pregnant - their bathroom breaks or the ability to sit down shouldn't be limited by their employer

See most retail workers, and anyone behind a cash register.

> See most retail workers, and anyone behind a cash register.

Yes, but only the people at the "coal face"

The managers in the background toilet at will.

> See most retail workers, and anyone behind a cash register.

Why would people behind cash register have to stand?

Video games have always been part tech demo

And the story aspects are played out no different than Hollywood

NMS has more in common with Minecraft. It's a virtual chat room that looks Star Wars-y

Also don't discount simply not being a kid anymore. Biology isn't static. Memory does not allow for that same initial burst of excitement.

Truly the scourge of humanity

We must organize a special police unit to sweep the streets guns akimbo and end this public nightmare once and for all!
