Spreading pedo content on Facebook, those people have to be the dumbest of the dumb? Everyone spending even a single critical thought on their crimes won't be caught by this.
And they say enforcement numbers drop significantly? Meaning they don't catch many other people? What the fuck are they even doing? Did they completely give up trying to find the real criminals, and instead fall back on sugar-coated figures to conceal that failure?
These pro-surveillance narratives don't even attempt to look plausible, they are aimed at the average Joe/Mohammed/whoever with attention span of 10ms and IQ of a guppy.

- Sometimes when moving off from a standstill in a queue, it triggers all "careful you're about to crash into something"-warnings. I suspect it's detecting exhaust gasses from a car in front?
- You must not, ever, touch the turn signal to announce your will switch lanes soon, while there is still a car next to you. You'll get a loud, obnoxious warning tone. This one is especially annoing as it makes sleeping as a passenger on the autobahn basically impossible.

Which people often do when sharing the driving on long drives. So, another case of it making driving more dangerous, if the spare driver can not rest properly.
My 2024-model Chinese EV allows for volume to be turned down for various things - and these volume settings are kept across 'reboots'. It makes the occasional 'bing' or 'bong' that I need to look at the screen to work out why (which is probably a 'new' safety issue caused by 'safety' settings), but it's nowhere near loud enough to awaken a sleeping passenger.
My sister-in-law has to reconfigure all of the cars safety settings every time she turns the car on as they reset to their seemingly maximal defaults upon boot.

I don't see another setup that comes close to the ease of setting this up - add an endpoint that provides jwt tokens to valid sessions, done. With user-individual permissions.
Completely, for some things it’s okay to trust the JWT. Nobody is saying let people transfer money or view government secrets with only a JWT and no security in depth. However receiving and potentially sending ephemeral communications seems fine, nobody got hurt in the 30mins the stolen token was valid for!
Even more, if you're working in your free time on something that is very much alike your dayjob (say you clone features from work), your emplyer probably owns* that too.

practically speaking, the only downside of using a fork (or chopsticks) is scraping the bottom when you are finishing up.
Does the api support progress reporting? ("30 % done")
Of course one could build this manually when you're building the worker implementation but I'd love to have it reflected in the api somewhere. Celery also seems to be missing api for that.
Anyone sees a reason why that's missing? I don't think it complicates the api much and seems such an obvious thing for longer-running background tasks.
To implement progress reporting, it means you are able to know the time a task would take to run upfront, no? Is it even possible to do it accurately ?
Though, I imagine you could have strategies to give an approximation of it, for example like keeping track of the past execution time of a given type of task in order to infer the progress of a currently running task of the same type.
The way it's typically done is that the worker process reports back its progress to the job metadata on the queue, and the web worker polls the job metadata to read the progress. I've implemented this for progress bars many times on Django with django-rq.
