Bandwidth costs money and streaming video costs several orders of magnitude more than just your random web/dev apps. Asking CF to foot the bill for entertainment streaming is really quite a lot.
I recently put Debian on an old 13" Asus Chromebook. It was surprisingly easy! I don't remember doing much other than removing a screw and installing a UEFI firmware on it. Everything worked out of the box.
It works pretty well too, as long as you temper your expectations around 4GB of RAM and aren't expecting to watch YouTube on it. (Older machines and phones are just not at all happy about 60fps videos.)
The lowest spec machine I have been able to get 60fps 720p video out of Youtube is a 2nd Gen i5 2.4Ghz. Anything lower and the frames start dropping.
It is funny that during that time period, Intel's media decoders got significantly faster in a very short period of time. My 4th gen 2Ghz i5 decodes video better than my 2nd Gen 3.8Ghz i7.
The bodies are better, but I can assure you, the frames and suspension parts are not. They still rust out here in the salt belt after 10-15 years, depending on the brand and how often you drive them. If Michigan instituted mandatory annual car inspections, it would take about half the (still working, not unsafe) cars off the road.
Yeah my wife and I inherited her parents' Highlander from Boston when they moved back to their home country. The drive shaft literally fell out on the road because the brackets holding it on rusted out. Was lucky I had enough momentum to pull over.
Yes. In the same way that dishwashers are an order of magnitude more water-efficient than washing by hand. (But consume a kilowatt of electricity heating the water and running the pump, which is the part that everyone always leaves out.)
You heat the water when you wash dishes by hand too, don't you? It's not very hygenic to do dishes with just cold water.
Given that by hand you use much more hot water than the dishwasher would, you're using more electricity (or gas). Since a little pump doesn't use much at all, it's mainly just the drying heat that matters. Though nobody is forced to use the drying cycle - if one enjoys drying dishes by hand, they can still use the dishwasher to do the washing.
In my house you don't heat the water but it's been sitting in a metal water tank at equitorial latitude for hours so is generally quite warm for evening dishes.
Is it safe? Not for a restaurant where the temps need to get to parasite killing temps to pass muster.. but if I had to guess, the odds of getting killed by a bad-tempered cow outweigh it by 10x.
You're assuming an absence of solar hot water heaters - the world isn't homogenous.
eg. Our household conserves water (we track every litre we bring up to the tanks and filter) and we don't have a dishwasher - hot water is heated by the sun and run-off goes to the grey water tank for the garden.
No I'm not. I don't care how you heat your water. I'm saying you (should) heat it either way, and you use more of it when hand-washing so if you do pay to heat it, you pay more by handwashing.
And in your case, you use more water because you hand-wash, than you would if you used a dishwasher. You use slightly less energy because of the pump but also a lot more of your time, so... obviously how you relatively value those different things is up to you.
Our concern here, and that of many people in the area, is total water usage per household - and to a large degree water usage for washing, showers, and toilets is a small fraction of the total usage - and one that can be ignored as most people have grey water capture (as do well planned and infrastructured cities).
Water used inside the house runs out to water food, shade, animals, etc. and that use can be deducted from the water that is required for those uses.
Energy is no great cost, it comes from the sun - both as electricity via panels and directly as heat via solar hot water systems.
When my water heating was electric, switching to a dishwasher consistently led to lower electric bills compared to a year prior (confirmed for 12 whole months).

I disagree with this. Yes, we have Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. And a few spin-offs of those. However, functionally, they are all pretty much the same. They all offer largely the same set of features, have substantially identical UX, and in general try to be everything for everyone.
What's missing is a browser for those of use who aren't "everyone." There is an (admittedly small) market for a browser for the privacy-conscious, the ad- and DRM-averse, the hackers, the power users, and those who are delighted rather than scared to see every possibly tweakable knob and button in their settings menu. Let me change the theme, let me rearrange the UI to my workflow, let me block any damn element/site I choose at the network level. Give me an API to extend and modify the _whole_ browser however I want without needing your corporate permission.
What's missing is the "Linux" of browsers.
(To be clear, I am not suggesting that Ladybird or Servo will fill this gap. It's too early to say one way or the other.)

The browser as an implementation of the standard is not differentiable. But a universal app engine with sandboxing untrusted apps, high performance, and platform neutrality that may or may not retain a DOM or render HTML is very browser-like and under explored.
On the other hand, I don't know if a slightly more customizable browser is something that's really worth building from scratch.
robots.txt applies (or should, in my opinion) to anything that automatically follows a link. Basically any software that is not a human-controlled web browser or single-shot curl command. Everything else: robot.
That doesn't sound like poaching to me? I mean, if it's a public endpoint, the person who finds it could be an independent contractor hired to work on the site, or a random person on the Internet probing the site for fun.
What you describe sounds more like a cleverly hidden ad. Google and others were famous for this during silicon valley's growth phase when you could get a job as a software engineer if you had heard of Java in passing and could fog a mirror.
Intent matters: a hiring campaign doesn't rise to the level of poaching unless there is some concerted effort to attract specific employees and/or talent from a specific company.
Finally, poaching is a perjorative term, but the practice of hiring another company's talent (even if they are a competitor) is not illegal or unethical. Companies SHOULD have to compete against each other for top talent.
The modern web seems to know nothing about it at this point, but back when CGI scripts were a new curiosity, there was a Shakespearean Insult Generator which was popular and quite a lot of fun.
I guess I hadn't been paying attention. Is this just the Windows SPICE client that Red Hat has abandoned, or are they moving toward dropping SPICE altogether? Does Red Hat no longer have a VDI product? (I'm sure they did at one point.)
Yes, Red Hat dropped SPICE support quite some time ago. Apparently in RHEL 8.3: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/5414901 It's definitely not part of any current Red Hat product. See my other reply for why this is.
I don't think we have a VDI product as such, assuming you discount VNC which we do support but is hardly a full VDI solution.
