We are not too far off from a time with ai and robotics and automated factories that the rich are no longer outgunned or outnumbered by things capable of disobeying them.

I think if the elites cared about their daughter and granddaughter they would have acted to not destroy the world to begin with, frankly. And it's no reprieve for the common man that after the world is ruined the elite bunkers will be trash after 100 years
For one, GrapheneOS is open source, unlike EncroChat which was a shady proprietary app distributed on shady modified smartphones.
GrapheneOS also doesn't have any custom messengers or other services which could potentially be monitored. It's very easy to check where your phone is sending requests, and if Graphene was secretly MITMing all of your traffic it would be discovered within days.
Since more than a decade that MITM is not a mass event. It is a targeted event for selected users which are scored as having a low chance of discovering anomalous traffic. It first (publicly) started by government authorities sending fake updates to operating systems which then weaken the target machines or straight up RAT them.
No, they really don't in this case. IIRC a sustained gigawatt of output over a 24 hour period is roughly equivalent to the sunlight absorbed by a 5 square kilometer patch of ocean in the tropics over the same period of time. The oceans absorb an almost incomprehensible amount of solar energy on a daily basis.
