Personally, I love it. I've had an extremely pleasant experience during the Pro-backer "beta" program and look forward to additional updates. Granted, I'm using the SVG framework provided by the NPM package import only the required icons into a reusable React component. The new NPM framework supports tree-shaking so it's nice to not have to include all of the icons if I'm not even using them.

I'm surprised they don't include letters in different colors and only have you distinguish ones of a particular color. Or make certain colors blink having the user select only the ones that are blinking.

As a user: I want the platform to take care of notifications. I care not to install dozens of different notification systems because some app decides to use Yet Another Notification System.

As a developer: I want the platform to take care of notifications. I don't want to worry about some third-party server works as expected nor do I want to have to care about the user having the right software install either.

I second the economics vote. It can really help you with your entrepreneurial desires. If you are really wanting to go out there, try out some law classes and see what you think. Not necessarily for a minor but they help you think about problems and issues differently.

Maybe I'm just of a different mindset but if they offered to return my laptop I would have gladly accepted.

For it to be such an issue in the beginning and then not-so-much in the end is suspicious.

The storyline is:

Laptop stolen, police report filed, laptop shows up in Iran, owner shames the people in possession of laptop, owner realizes he attacked the wrong person when readers and commenters pointed it out, owner realized the people in possession of the laptop are nice and now fells guilty, owner decides to give laptop to them as a nice gesture for the Internet to see.

The part that's not mentioned: how much compensation he received from the company that runs the tracking service. If its more than the laptop cost, the owner is still net ahead.

Does the service have a replacement guarantee or are you implying that this was a brand deal and he's being paid for the posts?

The latter (and if I were the CEO of that company, I probably would give the guy a new laptop, especially if the posts resulted in an influx of customers)

I think of myself as tending toward the cynical but this goes even farther than I would. Is there any reasoning behind that belief or just general cynicism? (for example is Dom somehow involved in marketing or advertising?)

Depending on your geographic location, this could be a lot of fun and really open your perspective. I've considered moonlighting as something similar to this (minus all the American Beauty connotations).

You could also use InkScape if you want a free alternative to Illustrator.

To me, using photoshop to design svgs is only going to cause you headaches.

I've heard this before and I think it's a great topic. Is the addressable issue that there needs to be a way to "upgrade" to the newest version or is there a fundamental oversight into how we handle upgrades of amazing resources like this. I feel like there is an elegant solution out there but it just hasn't been adopted into CSS and JS yet.
