We wouldn't be here today if the video game industry hadn't continued pushing the envelope for decades.

"Ancient" colonialism? The US and Israel are both actively seeking to expand their colonial territory.

This was an interesting piece of fiction you've written, with some very impressive mental gymnastics on display. However, it's so wrong that engaging with it would be doing you a disservice because it would make you think it's even an intellectually respectable position to have in the first place.

Have you played Outer Wilds? It nails this feeling. If you haven't played it, don't read or watch a single thing about it and just play it with zero expectations.

100%. I installed and began playing Outer Wilds on gamepass thinking that I was playing Outer Worlds. After about 10 minutes I knew I was wrong, it didn't feel like an Obsidian game. One of the best mistakes I ever made when it came to gaming.

I wonder how many other people have had that same delightfully lucky misfortune. :)

This is why utpoias are actually police state hellscapes. Who decides what risk means? Our current administration has declared that simply being anti-facist makes you a terorrist.

The way The Rehearsal continues to escalate and fold in on itself is a masterclass in screenwriting.

The precision required underneath the surface to plan and execute what seems like such a spastic, increasingly desperate clusterfuck involving so many real people can only be achieved by the exact methods put on display. Endless iteration and exploration until every serious edge case is considered and accounted for. Nathan would have made a great engineer.

The Curse was incredible.

I imagine this movie will be pretty successful as well and talked about a good bit on social media, between this and The Curse Nathan probably has formed a pretty good relationship with A24, I hope they continue to fund his antics for a while. The Rehearsal was some of the best television ever and I'd love to see more projects of that caliber.

I had to pause multiple times when watching The Curse because I was writhing in spiritual pain from excessive cringing. It was amazing.

By that logic, you should stop paying taxes if you don't want to support terrorism.

I would be in favor of my state government withholding federal taxes, yeah

It might come to that soon for a couple states, but it's going to be a rough time.

I'm just tired.

The actor is bad, the deed is good. Though, the open sourcing of llama 2 and beyond was pushed by Yann Lecun and others, some of whom have moved on from the company. Zuckerberg supports the AI initiatives but he's hardly leading them himself.

What argument do you have that releasing llama was actually good? They gave AI access to terrorists and criminals as much as they did to independent researchers. Arguably they are partially responsible for escalating blackhat cyber capabilities that are contributing to the rapid rise in attacks. Open source is neither inherently good or bad. The most you could really say is that it was accelerationist

> They gave AI access to terrorists and criminals as much as they did to independent researchers.

That's an odd hill to die own. Lots of despicable people use iPhones. Does that Apple is somehow complicit?

No, it means iPhones are neither good nor bad.

This is such a ridiculous response that I actually don't think it deserves any further time investment from me.

If you can’t explain why releasing llama was a net good then why bother commenting at all? One could surmise you don’t actually have any moral grounding for it and just like that you get to play with it for free

I can answer that question if you'd like, but the question you presented initially was extremely loaded and recycling tired political rhetoric that has already been beaten to a pulp.

Or you can just keep on making unfounded assumptions about my "moral grounding" if you'd like, you didn't leave a good first impression with me and I'm not terribly interested in discussing this with you if this is how it's going to be. Discussions are about finding common ground, but you seem to be looking for an argument.

I worked on a small organic farm and I can attest that glyphosate was sprayed irregardless of season, because technically an adjacent unused field isn't the same field being harvested. However I can also attest to strong winds that easily carry nebulized particles across fields. I also fondly remember being provided no PPE and breathing in clouds of that shit and getting it all over my skin frequently.

I’m sure that wasn’t healthy and left some kind of mark.

That seems... unpleasant, and a good poit to make.
